Social responsibility is the idea that businesses should balance profit-making activities with activities that benefit society; it involves developing businesses with a positive relationship to the society in which they operate. It means that individuals and companies have a duty to act in the best interests of their environments and society as a whole.
We at Healey Dell Heritage Centre understand that we have a responsibility to the community and have built social responsibility into our core.
Supporting the Environment
Healey Dell Heritage Centre is located near the Healey Dell Nature Reserve, and this unique location heavily impacts our support for the environment. We have introduced green policies that encourage recycling and energy conservation and are looking at the possibility of expanding this in the future, and we also promote environmental awareness in conjunction with local schemes such as the Green Volunteers of Rochdale Council. We are also looking at setting up closer ties with the Nature Reserve to promote and encourage wildlife and nature conservation activities.
Supporting British Businesses
Healey Dell Heritage Centre is located close to Rochdale Town Centre, which boasts a proud heritage in Greater Manchester and the UK. We want to support this and help it to thrive. We use primarily locally sourced produce, and we are looking to increase this to all of our products where possible. We also support local businesses and hope to work in partnership with those located in Rochdale Town Centre and beyond as we further develop the Centre.
Supporting British people
People are the heart and soul of Healey Dell Heritage Centre and we want to be able to support them as best as we can. The Centre was originally opened as a charity and, through two changes of ownership, it retains the ethics and working practices of a charitable organisation. We provide volunteering and work placement opportunities for people in the local community, and we ensure that all of our staff and volunteers are fully supported and trained in areas that are of benefit to them. We also offer artwork created by talented local artisans and photographers for sale at the Heritage Centre, with proceeds going directly to the artists themselves.
