Queen Elizabeth II, 1926 – 2022

In the last 70 years, there have been 15 Prime Ministers, 14 U.S. Presidents, 10 Presidents of France, 13 Prime Ministers of Canada, 17 Prime Ministers of Australia, 170 total Prime Ministers in the Commonwealth Realms, and countless other leaders of many nations.  There have been wars, ceasefires, innovations, evolutions, changes, and improvements.  Walls have been built and demolished.  Countries have joined together and gained independence.  Revolutions have risen and fallen.

In the last 70 years, there has only been one monarch of the United Kingdom: Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

On September 8th 2022, Her Majesty passed away at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, aged 96.  She passed away remaining steadfast in the promise she made on her 21st birthday – that her whole life, whether long or short, would be devoted to the service of her people.  She would remember that promise on her Silver Jubilee, saying “Although that vow was made in my salad days when I was green in judgment, I do not regret nor retract one word of it.”

We at Healey Dell Heritage Centre and Tea Rooms offer our condolences to the Royal Family and will carry Her Majesty and her family in our thoughts.  We also offer our best wishes to King Charles III as he embarks on his journey to fulfil the work his mother started 70 years ago.  May his reign be as honourable as his mother’s before him, and may God save the King.
